Wildlife veterinarians and trained volunteers feed a pygmy elephant calf on Jan. 20 in Borneo, Malaysia. The male calf, which is only a few weeks old, was pulled out of a deep moat surrounding a palm oil plantation in the remote Sabah state.

  6. Each morning elephants get a hand scrub bath! What a joy to watch.  I had an opportunity to visit Maesa Elephant Camp which is home to one of the largest assembly of elephants in the north of Thailand.

  7. Book Club

I am my own private book club.

I usually read two books and a magazine or two at a time. Right now I am reading:

Hannah’s Dream, Diane Hammond: if you liked Water for Elephants (which I LOVED) this is a wonderful tale of a man who is hired to take care of Hannah a zoo elephant.

    and

The Monk Upstairs, Tim Farrington (I just finished “The Monk Downstairs”)

    I recommend both.
